Suggest Remedy For Painful Swelling In Feet

My 70 year old father, long time smoker, curvature of the back has been complaining of swollen feet. He is a small man, under 5'5". He is very set in his ways and refuses to see anyone about this. They cause him immense pain, I have given him Tylenol, which he takes reluctantly. Is there anything else I can do.
