Suggest Remedy For Painful Swelling In Shin Post A Fall

I fell down the stairs a year ago. My shin got reaaly swollen and bruised but my parents said it was nothing and i woild not need a doctor to see it. It hurt a lot while walking for the next two weeks but i never said anything. It has allready been like a year and there is still slight onflamation and it is still.painfull to touh sometime. When you touh it you can see that in the place i hit my shin the bone sort of goes inwards. What could it be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have painful swelling in shin post a fall . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like fracture , soft tissue injury like muscle tear , hematoma or infection at injury site . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon without any delay because pain , bruising or swelling for so long period could be dangerous or may damage surrounding structures seriously . Doctor may order x-ray , CT scan and do physical examination . Doctor may drain if there is hematoma or pus formation due to infection , give plaster in case of fracture , prescribe antibiotics , anti inflammatory along with vitamin supplement for quick recovery . For now apply warm compresses and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .
