My husband has painful swelling that started in his mouth and now is in his jaw and neck and tender to the touch he is 55 and a smoker.he went to the dentist when it started and was treated with an antibiotic which helped for a short time ,but now is back and spreading
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have painful swelling in the mouth which can be because of many reasons like minor injury to mucosa due bite ,hard food ,acidic food or any dental appliances, poor oral hygiene and infection like thrush. In your case these probably is hand, foot and mouth infection. Usually they resolve by themselves in few days .I would suggest you to avoid spicy food and acidic drink. Do warm saline rinses. You should use antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine and brush your teeth twice a day. You can also apply dologel on painful swelling .If the condition do not resolve in 4-5 days then consult dentist for proper examination and to rule out other conditions like canker sore .Doctor may perform scaling and prescribe oral antibiotics.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
