When my granddaughter was going to have her tonsils out, they took a chest x-ray and on the chest x-ray they found that she had right perihilar opacification which was concerning for early airspace disease. Should the parents do something about this. I do not believe the doctor said anything to them about this.
Thanks for your question on HCM. In children perihilar opacification is commonly seen and it is mostly from early lung infection. Hilar lymphnodes are draining lungs. So whenever there is infection in lung, lymphnodes are enlarged and these enlarged lymphnodes gives appearance of hilar opacification. So give him antibiotics and get done repeat chest x ray after 10 days. If opacities are same or worsening than get done CT THORAX for better evaluation of mediastinal nodes.
