Suggest Remedy For Persistent Cough Post A Bout Of Flu
Hi, I had the flu 2 months ago. Took Tamiflu and became o.k., after a few days. Then, I started to cough, after 2 weeks of no flu. Not sure if the cough is related to the flu. Started to take NAC, 600 mg, from Pure Encapsulation, twice daily. Is this a good idea? Should I get the Effervescent type. I can t find one without splendor. Would appreciate your advice.
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Viral cough usually accompanies and lingers after the fever is gone. You had the cough after 15 days of cough. If you don't have fever, sputum with yellow or green in color or you are breathless. you need a doctor's advise for treatment.
In my view you can take any cough syrup (Zedex cough syrup) with hot water twice a day. An uncomplicated cough should be controlled in 4-5 days. Avoid spicy, oily cold or sour eating / drinking. Avoid exposure to known antigens. In case of no relief you need a doctor's consultation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
