Suggest Remedy For Persistent Cough With Mucus

I finished my Z-Pack about 3 weeks ago and am still coughing up that mucus - type fluid. It appears to be mainly white, maybe a little yellowish. I am an avid power - walker and the cough really doesn t bother me during my 90 minute walks. I have good energy and strength, just a continued cough. I am right at 4 weeks with this cough and wondering if I need to return to my Doc? I don t mind letting it take it s course now, as long as there is nothing else wrong. What is your advise?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Cough can persist for up to 6 weeks after an acute cough/cold , this is called post viral cough and may the reason for the continued cough.
You can consider waiting out this time period if the cough is not very bothersome.

Persistent coughing may also be related to post nasal drip.

This is one of the most common causes of chronic cough.
This is treated with topical steroid nasal sprays and oral antihistamines.

I hope this helps
