Suggest Remedy For Persistent Left Sided Pain In The Ribs

My husband, age 62, began having left sided pain in the rib area about 3 days ago. There was no trauma. It hurts more when he breathes, sneezes or rides on a bumpy road. No bruises or bloating noted. No change in eating habits or bowel pattern. We are taking a wait and see approach but the pain has gotten worse and he is having to take a lot of ibuprofen to keep it at bay. Even with that, he rates his pain a 4-5. Thanks for your help

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

The symptoms are more likely suggestive of costochondritis.

If symptoms persist, it is better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
