I had a severe sore throat, and cough a few weeks ago. My sore throat has returned. I told my doctor on my first visit that my sore throat didn t feel like a sore throat from cold/flu. The soreness is around my mid-throat area, and seems to be more irritated on the left than the right. Its a very sharp pain when I swallow, and seems to stay dry, which triggers a cough. I am also hoarse. I know its hard to diagnose with an exam...any suggestions will help.
You could be having an ulcer since you are able to localize the pain; most such ulcers settle in 7- 10 days if large in size. Gargling with Disprin or warm saline is useful; take soft and bland foods and avoid straining your voice.
