Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a pimple scab on my forehead, size of a dime, that just doesn t seem to want to fall off. It is very flat, and almost looks wrinkly. It s been on my face for about 2 weeks. I keep moisturizing it as much as I can (neosporin & cerave lotion), so I am wondering whether that is what is making it stay on as long as it has. Should i be keeping it dry instead? I just want to heal the skin underneath. I am desperate, so sick of this thing. The only difference I see from last week that is less red and skin is wrinkly. Please help. Thank you so much!
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pimple scars and scabs take a relatively long time to clear away. The scab is basically the dry skin which is clinging on to the skin. Removal of dead skin is required but first you have to ensure that there is no pus collection of active pimple in the area. If there is presence of an active pimple with pus and redness, then that has to be treated with topical application of clindamycin and peroxide preparation. The hyperpigmentation caused has to be managed by topical application of preparations like mderma to reduce the pigmentation. However, before this, a steroid preparation to clear the irregularities on the skin is required. You need to consult your dermatologist for clinical assessment and prescription of above mentioned preparations.
