Suggest Remedy For Pressure And Burning In Throat Post Inhalation Of Toothpaste
I sneezed while brushing my teeth and shot toothpaste into my right ear and sinus area. I almost passed out from the pain and have kept my head tipped since. I netty potted and that helped stop the most of the burning but not the pressure pain. It s still hurting and menthol dropping down my throat is burning still.
Thanks for your query . The burning sensation of throat is caused by chemical present in toothpaste like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate . As this substance act as a foreign particle for body .
The burning sensation is also due to allergic reaction caused by contents of toothpaste .
There is nothing to panic . The sensation and effect of tooth paste go away within 24 hours .
I would suggest you to :-
- Do warm saline gargles .
- Take over the counter antihistamine drug like bendryl.
- Take advil (if not allergic or paracetamol for pain and discomfort.
If sensation doesn't go away in 24 hours or get worse then consult physician for proper diagnosis and to rule out cause like acid reflux.
Doctor may prescribe anti allergic drugs or gice adrenalin short.
hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
