Suggest Remedy For Rashes On Body Post Gallbladder Surgery

After gall bladder surgery, laposcoptic, I am having a body rash starting 10 days after surgery and have used Cortizone .1% over the counter and this is not resolving the itch. The rash started around the incisions on the right upper quad side and now 3 wks since surgery is still here and migrating to the left side, the right side and this morning around to my right back and right forearm. Internist said it was allergy to the iodine scrub and prescribed Locoid cream .1% but insurance would not cover it and it cost $485, which I can t afford. I have tried calamine spray, witch hazel swab, gold bond intensive healing with Dimethicone- non helping. Topical doesn t help as this seems internal as it pops out in areas not related to the iodine scrub. Feel like a dog with a bad case of fleas - itchy and clothes touching sensitive. No antibiotic was ever prescribed and I had asked for one and told the day of surgery I would not need one. Any insight would be appreciated. No narcotics were taken and only an Iv injection after surgery of Oxycodone. I am allergic to Vicatin, Codeine. No dye contrast was used. Bilirubin count was high 8.5 before surgery, after it is normal 1.2

Hello,

The rash started at the incision site and is spreading. It mostly appears to be of allergic contact dermatitis. It would spread to many areas not related to surgery. The treatment options are corticosteroids are the mainstay of treatment. Oral corticosteroids is to be used in the dosage of 40-60 mg/ day for at least 2 weeks and then slowly tapered. You might apply prescription topical steroids, such as Clobetasol 0.05% or triamcinolone 0.1%. Topical soaks with cool tap water, Burow solution (1:40 dilution), saline (1 tsp/pint) can be soothing.

Sedating oral antihistamines like Cetirizine and Chlorpheneramine maleate are very useful in itching. Topical immuno-modulators like Tacrolimus 0.1% ointment are very helpful. If the rash doesn't resolve, phototherapy, immunosuppressive agents are to be used. Identify and removal of the allergen. Food allergens are also to be taken care of.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

It does sound odd for it to be an allergic reaction to the iodine scrub as it started 10 days after surgery. Possible to the plaster covering the incisions and sutures. I suggest you try antihistamine and paracetamol.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
