Suggest Remedy For Red Itchy Splotches After Colon Removal

Hi, I had part of my colon removed about 13 days ago, no cancer. Broke out in red looking splotches that itched terribly before leaving hospital. Dr. told me just to take some Benadryl. I am still having problems with this - all of the itching and red splotches are located on my hands and feet. Any ideas.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The itching and rash may be due to contact dermatitis (inflammation of the skin due to contact with a particular agent) or may be related to infection such as hand foot and mouth disease.

If you have no oral lesions, then hand foot and mouth is not likely.

You should continue the use of the benadryl. The application of a topical steroid and calamine cream may also help to relieve the itching.

I hope this helps
