Suggest Remedy For Redness And Pain On Right Side Of Torso

Hi I am 4 weeks post c section and about 6 days ago I snagged my foot on a cord and reacted to keep myself from falling, I didn t feel anything immediately, then that same night I got up suddenly out of my sleep and I felt like I pulled something. Since then I have been having a burning feeling on the right side and a tenderness about 1 inch above the sutures at the end of the of the incision on the same right side. It has not been hot and there hasn t been any redness, there is just pain(not excruciating) and tenderness. Could I have pulled an internal suture? Also my bleeding seemed to have stopped but since then it has been on and off but very light and at times it s bright red (new blood)/and at other times it s dark.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The red blood turning dark indicates underlying hematoma changes, with extreme pain and redness suggests possible inflammatory changes with abscess formation. Following measures would be helpful as:
- Local application of ice
- Foot elevation over 3 pillows
- Avoidance of weight bearing and tight shoes, high heels
- Analgesic and anti inflammatory for pain relief
- Prescription of antibiotics with your doctor

Regular follow up with doc is vital as this may need a minor surgery of incision and drainage if neglected over a period of time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
