Suggest Remedy For Reduced Appetite While On Champix

Hi. I am a healthy/sporty male - 185cm and 83kg. I have been taking Champix (Non smoking)for 1 month and my appetite has decreased to an extent that i m losing 1/2kg a week. Are there ways to help me regain my healthy apetite whilst on these meds and will my normal apetite return when i finish my 10 week course? Most people gain weight when they stop smoking Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Champix generally causes weight gain due to increased appetite. Hence, it is essential to rule out other causes of weight loss such as chronic infections. The cause of inability to gain weight are nutritional deficiency, chronic infections, malabsorption syndromes, parasitic infestations, hyperthyroidism which should be ruled out.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
