Suggest Remedy For Relapse Of Papillary Ca Thyroid
sir,my father is suffering from papillary ca thyroid,with recurrence within 2 years..a nodule of 2.5cms in thyroid bed adherent to carotid sheath,trachea and esophagus.he was given radioactive iodine twice...once after primary surgery when it responded well..but the second time after recurrence it didnot respond after radioactive iodine therapy..sir wat is the treatment now...we were told to wait for 1 month and then take radioactive iodine therapy.but a second opinion was surgery was better for recurrent thyroid ca.sir, what is the preferred treatment now?there is no evidence of metastasis.thank you,sir
Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Radio iodine treatment is preferred option for small lesions that are picked up by scan. If the lesions are large or if the radio iodine treatment is not effective you can try surgery. In my practice I suggest radio iodine treatment first as it is less invasive and with lesser complications.
