Hello !
I read your question and understand your concern.
If her migraine attacks are so severe I would recommend a prophylactic treatment to prevent most of attacks or decrease their frequency.
Taking into consideration her age I would prefer treatment with
propranolol, a
beta blocker very effective for migraine in young women. It can cause
bradycardia , so it should be started slowly.
Topiramate would be very effective to prevent migraine attacks. It is an antiepileptic drug very effective in migraine.
For the attack I would recommend Risatriptan or
Sumatriptan.
These drugs should be given under
neurologist prescription.
For over the counter drugs, have you tried Indomethacine ? It can cause pain relief.
I would recommend bring her to the emergency room if the pain is very severe and lasting more than 72 hours.
Another advise I would give is to avoid some food that may trigger migraine attacks like chocolate, alcohol etc.
Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes, Dr. Abaz Quka
