Suggest Remedy For Severe Pain In Bottom Of Jaw In The Area Of Crown On Tooth
I had a gold crown several years ago I have been having very strong pain often not all the time but when it hits I really struggle with the pain. Heat seems to trigger the cause I was in a car wreck several yrs ago and had several gold overlays put in place. the pain is in the bottom left of my jaw where the crown is.
Thanks for your query .The problem you mention in your query is usually occur in old fillings .There can be many reasons for that kind leakage at the margins of filling which can cause infection due to entrapment of food debris.Infection sometimes travel down the root and cause pain when touched or hit. It may be possible that your dentist didn't perform root canal at the time of giving crown.
The another reason for pain can be cracked crown under the crown due excessive mastication forces.Due to which sensitivity is also there.
I would suggest you to visit dentist for proper evaluation .Doctor may order X-ray ,remove the crown and retreat it with root canal procedure or may extract the tooth in case of cracked tooth.He/she may also prescribe antibiotics course along with painkillers and anti inflammatory drugs.
Hope your concern has been resolved. Get Well Soon. Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
