Suggest Remedy For Severe Throbbing Pain In Tooth Post Root Canal Treatment

Hi. I have a question regarding a recent root canal procedure almost 2 weeks ago. I took Amoxicillin that was prescribed to me and just finished yesterday. There is still a lot of pain and throbbing/ sensitivity to the tooth. It looks like the filling may have come out because I can see a small hole. I called the dentist to make an emergency appointment to see him within a day or two. Does it sound like the tooth will need to be extracted or is it possible that all of the nerves were not removed during the procedure? I know it is impossible to diagnose over a computer screen but I am just concerned and I hope that the tooth can still be saved.

Hi..
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have read your problem in detail and will explain you the reason for pain..

Pain after root canal treatment can be commonly due to two reasons..
1. Any canal is missed out and have vital nerves remaining and the inflammation of nerves are causing pain..
2.There is infection below the root tips of treated tooth..

You will need to consult your dentist and an x Ray will only give a correct diagnosis..
In case of left out canal the canal has to be located, cleaned and filled..
In case of infection a 7 days course of antibiotics like Augmentin and anti-inflammatoy painkiller like Ibuprofen can be given for 7 days, after this even if the pain does not subside root canal treatment has to be repeated with the antibiotic and painkillers for relief from pain and infection..

Tooth can hopefully be saved..

Hope this information helps.

Thanks and regards..
