Suggest Remedy For Sore Throat Due To Prolonged Exposure To Bleach

At my job, every day I have to use bleach to disinfect and clean rooms. We just started doing this 2 months ago. Since we started doing this, I have had a severe sore throat. It feels super dry like I desperately need to drink water at all times or need cough drops nonstop. We were not advised to wear masks or anything but if we want to, all we have is the paper surgical masks. I don t see us stoping the use of these chemicals anytime soon and I dont know how much more my throat can take. Is there anything I can do to make this sore throat go away? What are your reccomendations?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain sore throat after prolonged exposure to the bleach seems to be most probably due to chemical irritation to the toxic droplets of chemical bleach present in fumes leading to chronic sore throat..
It will keep or becoming more severe as there will be continuous exposure to the irritant fumes and as you are already exposed to it for 2 months..
It can further cause ulceration of throat mucosa and long term exposures can also lead to respiratory diseases and cancer..
I would suggest you to first of all stop using the bleach and in case if it is mandatory for your job, it would be better to talk to the authorities about it and its harm and if nothing works up you should look for safer job profiles..
As of now you can start wearing surgical mask and also do warm saline gargles..
You can also take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Drink cool water to reduce inflammation and also avoid spicy foods..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
