Suggest Remedy For Stiffness And Swelling On Thigh Post Surgery

Sir, my father had undergone surgery for supra condylar fracture of right knee 8 months back. He had drainage of pus after two months of surgery and was operated again for incision and drainage and put on IV FOR TWO MONTHS ( tegacycline, vancomycin) and the severity was too high that he had vaccum therapy for four sittings. Again last month he developed abscess on the medial aspect of right knee but the nature of pus was dry. He was again operated for incision and drainage. Pus culture was negative. And was prescribed antibiotic injection supacef for 21 days and later on cetil As of now he is walking with the help of stick but has lot of strain and stiffness on upper thigh. The swelling has grown a lot and when asked doctor about it, answer came like this that the bone is in uniting stage. There might be infection but let him put entire weight on his right leg and need not worry about infection and asked to stop antibiotics and take calcium tablets. What should I do?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is quite common after a surgery and it is due to inflammatory pain and minor arthritis.

As a first line management you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief. You can also opt for physiotherapy as it will provide good pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
