Suggest Remedy For Stuck Food In Throat Causing Discomfort

My son was eating dinner, chili, something is still caught in his throat. He is trying to dislodge it with water, but the water will not go down and he vomits it back up. He is breathing fine and talking but very uncomfortable as it is still stuck. This happens to him frequently but the duration this time is much longer, three hours now?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
welcome to healthcare
first of all we should know that it usually happens to those who eat very fast or talk more during swallowing. Hence this should be avoided.
If this is not the cause, only an laryngoscopy/upper g.i endoscopy should be done and swallowing should be assessed for proper coordination of all the muscles
I think right now you should observe his eating habits, not to talk during eating, avoid too much intake of fluids with food, chew the food adequately
If not relieved, upper g.i endoscopy should be considered for swallowing assessment
I find this answer helpful
