Suggest Remedy For Sudden Weight Gain When Suffering From Thyroditis
i had been losing weight for months. all of a sudden a few months ago, i started gaining weight. the more i gained, the more i lessoned calories, and stuck to foods of the earth. i have been diagnosed with hashimotos thyroiditis, 2 months ago. i have been taken levothtroxin 50mg. but i am still gaining weight. should i lower my caloric intake even more? or am i going to keep gaining weight? i am 61, and had a hysterectomy last june. all my teeth pulled in january, and was diagnosed with a nodule on my thyroid this morning. main question...how to continue losing weight with this problem. please help.
Hello.... Hashimoto Thyroiditis is a autoimmune disorder. It presents as Hyperthyroidism symptoms called Thyrotoxicosis that causes weight loss. Its treatment is Thyroidectomy if there is a toxic nodule on radionuclide scanning. Afrer Thyroidectomy we keep the patient on Hormonal replacement therapy as Levothyroxin because of deficiency of Thyroid hormone. But after taking certain times, we should monitor the Thyroid level that is. Free T4 and TSH. Beacuse sometimes the Thyroxin level goes high in blood after replacement therapy and that may cause significant weight gain. So my advise is to go for test of Free T4 and TSH and titrate your doses. Meanwhile you continue on calorie restriction with some aerobic exercise to burn the extra calories.
