Suggest Remedy For Swelling In The Neck

I have hyoid bone bursitius in neck.... This was first found when i am 12... Then there was no swelling..
but recently ,now at 24 i could see swelling in neck towards left side...... doc,suggested me to have an surgery...

my query is tat , it is only way to have a surgery or any medication help in curing this.
