Suggest Remedy For Swelling On Gums After Infected Molar Removal

i had a first molar removed on 1/16 and was put on antibiotics since it was infected. Last Thursday my jaw started to swell significantly and I had a fever. I went back to the oral surgeon last Friday and he did an opening in drainage as there was pus in the extraction site. By Saturday the swelling was worse my fever was high so I went to the emergency room. They did a CT scan and the radiologist stated that it looks like I was forming osteomyelitis. The ER doctor called my oral surgeon who said that it was normal and to follow up with him today which I did. My jaw is still extremely swollen I still have a fever and I have yellow pus coming out of the extraction site still. however my oral surgeon says this is all normal although I have a history of osteomyelitis and sepsis from a previous extraction issue five years ago. Should I go back to the ER for possible IV antibiotics since the oral antibiotics are not working?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain Osteomyelitis of jaw is infection of the bone marrow of the bone that occurs due to dental infections.
As you have pus discharge and swelling of the jaw and already been diagnosed with Osteomyelitis with having a previous history of Similar infection, you need to undergo immediate treatment as it is not normal and you are misleaded that it is normal..
Consult another oral surgeon and get evaluated and a culture and sensitivity of the discharge along with x rays and CT scan will be evaluated..
You can be advised appropriate antibiotics, oral as well as intravenous once the type of bacteria causing infection is ruled out..
You can also be advised debridement of the wound with pus drainage and proper antiseptic dressings will be placed..
It has to be taken care of as it can cause pathologic fracture of the jaw..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
