Suggest Remedy For Swelling On The Penile Shaft

Hello Dr., I had a night of some rigorous dry humping (underwear on) with my girlfriend, then later that night I had masturbated. When I woke up in the morning, I had some swelling in a ring from (little less than a quarter inch wide at the top of the shaft, right below the corona of glands. Is this anything serious?

Hi,

In the situation you described, it's possible that the rigorous activity, combined with masturbation, may have caused some irritation or minor trauma to the penile tissue. This can lead to temporary swelling or inflammation in the affected area.

While it's difficult to determine the severity or exact cause without a proper examination, here are a few general suggestions that might help in the meantime:
* Rest and avoid further irritation: Give your body time to heal by avoiding any further sexual activity or vigorous rubbing in that area.
* Cold compress: Applying a cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a thin cloth to the swollen area for 10-15 minutes at a time can help reduce swelling and alleviate discomfort. Do not apply ice to the skin directly.
* Over-the-counter pain relievers: If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, can provide temporary relief. However, it's important to follow the instructions and consult with a pharmacist or healthcare professional if you have any concerns or if the symptoms worsen.

It's crucial to monitor the swelling and observe for any changes or additional symptoms. If the swelling persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms such as severe pain, redness, discharge, or difficulty urinating, it is highly recommended to seek medical attention from a healthcare professional who can provide a proper evaluation and appropriate treatment.
