Hello,
Swelling and pain in the knee is commonly due to overuse or trauma. Tear or trauma to the ligaments, tendons,
meniscus, bursae, articular
cartilage, etc. More serious conditions that cause swelling and pain in the knee are Baker's cyst, OA, RA or Gout. You can take anti inflammatory medicine, Naproxen, one SOS when pain. Apply pain relieving
ointments. Gentle massage and
heat therapy may help. Keep the feet at rest, keep it elevated on a stool when seated and on a pillow when on bed.
Compression bandage may help to ease discomfort. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an orthopedic specialist. Get blood work outs,
urinalysis and imaging tests done to get a detailed study of the pathology that is causing you discomfort. You will be treated accordingly. Stay away from addictions if any. Take balanced home made diet.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
