Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my wife grabbed a frying pan handle after it came out of the oven. She has what I believe to be a second degree burn on the pinky side of her hand. She says it won t stop hurting and is in a lot of pain. She ran her hand under cold water for about 20 mins and has held a cold compress on it for at least 2 hours. I got her BurnJel as well. Do you think a trip to the Emergency room is necessary?
I think she has taken all the required measures for now, I am not sure if a visit to the ER is required as of now. Let her continue with the application of burnjel for a day or 2, and if the finger continues to worsen then visit a doctor in the ER. But as of now she can wait, it is going to burn quite bad. I am only worried about an infection, and so I think it is better to visit the ER, just to be on the safer side, let them decide whether or not she needs more assistance based on how it looks.
Best wishes.
