Hi Dr Geoffrey. I had a small piece of toothpick lodged btw my teeth, tried taking it out but unfortunately it went into my gum and i can't take it out. What should I do?This happened 3 days ago. I'm not in pain but whenever i eat on that side of my mouth i sense soreness. Do you think the dentist would take out my tooth to remove the foreign object? I've already had my wisdom tooth removed not long ago, don't want any of my tooth pulled out any more because it might lead to more problems.I ready need your advice. Thanks dr.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain in case if you have a piece of toothpick stuck in between the gums that is not getting retrieved by you on your own then you need to consult a Dentist and get evaluated and they can use scaler tips that are long and thin to easily penetrate into the gums and retrieve the toothpick.. You need not to worry as there is no need for extracting the tooth for removing the toothpick tip.. But the removal is must as it can act as foreign body and also cause bacterial accumulation around it and cause formation of a painful abscess..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
