Suggest Remedy For Yellow Red Discharge From Ear

Hello Dr
I went to the Dr yesterday with my 6 year old son. He had an ear ache and a high temperature. When the Dr checked his ear, he told me there wasnt an infection but the canal was red and he had a temperature of 38.8. He pescribed antibiotics (my mouth) amoxillin.
But today, he has been getting yellowy red discharge from his ear.. Is this somthing i should worry about or should inform my gp about?
Many thanks
Mrs. Akhtar

Hello,

As per your complaint earache, fever, redness of ear canal, and yellow discharge from the ear that is most probably be pus are all indicating towards ear infection. You should consult an otolaryngologist, and get evaluated and an otoscopic examination can be diagnostic.

In case if there is an infection, he can advise you antibiotics like Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen for fever. Antibiotic ear drops like Gentamycin and steroid ear drops can also be advised. Avoiding excessive water exposure like swimming will further help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
