Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Yes. IN the past I was severely sensitive to the sun. It made me terribly sick. I am now much better but my 25- Hydroxy level is 7, and my 1,25 V. D level is 47. I am concerned about taking VD even though my level is low, because I don't want to become sensitive to the sun again. What are your thoughts on this?
Hello there, Sun exposure makes you synthesise VIT D in your skin but VIT D does not make you sensitive to the sun or have allergic reactions on exposure to the sun. Hypersensitivity to the sun and VIT D levels are in no way interlinked. If you feel you are better off without sun exposure you can supplement yourself with a vit D containing multivitamin. It will give you similar results as exposure to the sun but without the hypersensitivity.
Hope this helps, Dr Arun A
