Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

There are small structures called discs which are seen between small bones of the spine from neck through the lower back.

At level L 5 - S 1 in the lower back, you seem to be having the disc herniating out of its normal position and causing pressure effect on the covering of the spinal cord (thecal sac). As a result the S 1 nerve root on the right side at the L 5 - S 1 level is being compresssed due to pressure of the herniating disc.

This can cause pain and numbness in the lower limbs. It is important to discuss the amount of pressure that the discs are causing on the cord with your neurosurgeon. Physiotherapy may help and you need to avoid intense physical activity for sometime. Pain killers active on nerves can also help. Please restrict your physical activity.
