Suggest Solution For Heart Ailments

Husband, age 54, CHF diabetes and has been hospitalized twice since March. AF ever since, now found leaky mitral valve. Cardiologists are meeting to discuss candidate for surgery since his main cardio dr didnt feel he was. I believe he is stage 3 or 4.....severe is also used. He just was told AF could be coming from CHF now probably leaky valve. What should we ask or plan for life expectancy.

Hi welcome to HCM.
In presence of stage 3 severe CHF,mitral regurgitation can cause troublesome symptoms like pulmonary edema/fluid retention in the lungs.Mitral valve surgery in diabetics can pose some perioperative complications. The overall success rate of surgery can be in the range of 55-65%.The average life expectancy post surgery will be around 3-5years if properly managed with diet and drugs with control of blood pressure.Consult your cardiologist for further help.
Thank you
