Suggest Solution For Hip Pain

I have just started to get an annoying pain in my hip. Located on the outer left side. Some background information - i have never experienced any trauma to the area at all. have recently been on holidays relaxing around watching tv laying about in various positions on the couch etc. the only thing i could possibly put it down to is when i change my work shoes to my runners i seem to get relief. Any ideas. greatly appreciated. have also been using an eliptical machine 3 times a week, however, the pain started before I started and does not seem to affect me whilst on it.
