Suggest Some Remedies To Reduce Cholesterol

I am a 54 year female, I have Morbus Addison, I'm diabetic. I sport a lot, I eat healthy, I'm a vegetarian. My doctor measured my cholesterol as 7 instead around the 4,5 - 5 the years before. How can I lower my cholesterol by myself with food or other alternatives?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that high levels of cholesterol seem to be related to diabetes and Addison disease.

I would recommend some diet modifications (a low fat diet, increase food reach in omega 3 like fish oil, nuts, olive oil, fish, etc.) and continue doing sport.

I would recommend starting a statin (atorvastatin, simbastatin, etc.) to help you lower your cholesterol levels.

You should know that the levels of total cholesterol are not a good indicator of your cardiovascular risk. I would recommend checking your total cholesterol\HDL ratio, which is a better indicator of this risk. Values below 4.5 of this ratio would indicate a low cardiovascular risk.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
