Suggest Suitable Therapy For Depression

i was prescribed adderall about 3 months ago by my primary care doctor. he gave me 10mg twice a day and told me to see a psychiatrist to regulate the dosage since he wasn't one. i go tomorrow to see my new psychiatrist. i experimented with the dosage since he wouldn't regulate it, i know i'm not supposed to do that, but i figured that was the only way to see what was a good fit for me. at first i took it on and off because it didn't seem to help that much. then i took it as prescribed and it seemed to help a bit for awhile. then, it didn't seem to work anymore, so i have gradually increased my dosage to 25mg twice a day. it seems to work, but i get a really tired feeling after about 4-5 hours and i nod off at work. i have found that the adderall helps with my depression also and every other depression med. i've taken in the past has had sexual side effects, where this does not. i'm not sure how to approach my psychiatrist by telling him i've increased the dosage on my own. this should be noted - i am a recovering alcoholic/addict, sober for 4 years 2 months. my drugs of choice have always been opiates, though. i don't want to go in and look like a druggie trying to get meds, i've done that before with the opiates. i just don't know how my new psych will react when he hears that i regulated my own meds. thanks for your help in advance.

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. Adderall is a drug usually prescribed for ADD. Your physician did the right thing by refering you to a psychiatrist. From your side, you could have taken the prescribed medicine and could have felt better now. No experiments. Physician referred you to psychiatrist for further expert treatment. That does not mean the physician do not know the basics of psychiatry. Addrall 10mg was apt at that time. When you visit your psychiatrist you will get new set of medicnes. Please be patient till then.

If you still need my assistance in this regard, please use this link. http://goo.gl/aYW2pR. Please remember to describe the whole problem with full detail.
