Hello and welcome to HCM,
There are many tests available to know the well being of the unborn baby.
The most important issues are that of chromosomal abnormalities and structural anomalies.
The structural anomalies can be assessed by regular
ultrasound.
The chromosomal abnormalities can be assessed by tests called
amniocentesis,
chorionic villus sampling and triple/ quadruple test.
The first two tests are invasive tests in which the
amniotic fluid and chorionic villi are sampled from the
gestational sac.
These two tests provide immense information regarding genetic make of the baby and detects any chromosomal abnormalities.
These two tests are done in the 1st trimester and early 2nd trimester beyond which they become unsafe.
The last test- triple/ quadruple tests are done on blood sample of mother, thus safe at any time.
This test is done to detect neural tube test.
However, proper management can only be done when detected early in pregnancy thus should be performed during pregnancy.
Consult your gynecologist for further management.
Thanks and take care
