Hi,

You can start taking birth control pills as soon as you get them - any day of the week, and anytime during your menstrual cycle. If your 5th day of menstruation is Wednesday, start with the first pill of the pack. When you are starting the mini pill for the first time, or after a break from the mini pill, it can take up to three days to start working. Kindly use another back up method of contraception such as barrier method for the above mentioned time period.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
