Suggest The Dosage Of Doxepin

Where can I see picture of doxepin? My doctor prescribed it for insomnia after a long run with prosom. One site says take no more than 6 mg (picture shows pills) but I am taking 10 mg capsules. Mostly healthy male 74 years old. Thanks. David ( YYYY@YYYY ).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

6 mg orally once a day.

For the treatment of insomnia, the recommended dose of Doxepin is 6 mg orally within 30 minutes before bedtime. Higher doses are recommended for the treatment of anxiety, depression, and other conditions.

Taking higher doses may result in certain side effects such as drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, and urinary retention. Other infrequently reported CNS side effects are confusion, disorientation, hallucinations, numbness, ataxia, abnormal movements, and seizures.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
