Suggest The Dosage Of Sertraline HCL

Is 150 mg of sertraline HCL a big dosage? I am scared to ask my Dr. to increase my mg s, but at the same time, I wish to feel better. Also, am very optimistic about taking drugs. So confused. I recently had a pacemaker put in for A-Fib, and not feeling the best since. (Sept. 2016) No stroke or heart attack thank God. I am a woman and 64 years old. My Dad passed away at 75 years with heart and emphesema. I never smoked but was around 2nd hand smoke my whole life. How will 150 mg s of sertraline HCL affect me overtime? Please let me hear from you. Have a great day!!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Sertraline is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor class. It is primarily used for a major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder.

The initial dose for treatment of most disorders is either 25/50 mg orally once/day. It may be increased by 25 mg at 1-week intervals. However, should not to exceed 200 mg once/day.

Hence, what dosage you are receiving must be fine. Do not increase the dose in your own as it could be risk for your health. Kindly consult your doctor for proper prescription and dosage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ashakiran S,
