Suggest Treatment For ADHD And Non Verbal Learning Diability

Hello, my daughter 19 just told me that she is a man trapped in a womans body. She has ADHD and a non verbal learning disability. Her disability effects her self esteem and very much effects her socially. She has random friends whom in most cases I never meet. They never seem to be long term friendships either. This confuses me. At first she told me she was a lesbian, but then at other times she shares that she thinks a guy is really hot and jokingly is her future husband. This makes me feel she is uncertain. Recently she said she was a man trapped in a woman body. Is it possible that she is confused and this is why I get all theses different ideas from her or is the last statement she made about herself the final conclusion. I am really not understanding and it hurts especially because i don't want her to hurt and I don't have all the answers for her or I. Please advise. THnx

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from Health Care Magic for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. She is just 19 years old and at this age some individuals develop role confusion. She is a known patient of ADD and have learning disability which also make her vulnerable to confusion. I would advise you to talk to her and find out any conflict she is having. If she is not opening up then help from a counsellor can be taken. A good counsellor can help in finding out exact problem. She is saying that she feels that she is a man trapped in female body and this should not be taken lightly. She could be having Gender Identity Disorder and this requires proper treatment. Visit a psychiatrist for help.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
