Suggest Treatment For Dementia And Hemorrhoid In A 89 Year Old Female
My mother presented this morning with bleeding from the rectal area....not a lot...upon further investigation she appears to have a hemorrhoid....although i have never seen one before...she is 89 yrs old with alz/dementia...so questions are not answered by her...I do know that when I was cleaning her to get her up....it was sore to the touch....other than that I have asked her if her buttocks hurts...and she says no....she is total care, and I care for her....no medicines other than vitamins and perservision for her eyes....is this something I should be concerned about or can I treat with preperation H and warm sitz baths???? Thank you
noted history of hemorrhoids and bleeding per rectum. it is best if you bring your mother for consultation to a doctor, preferably a general surgeon, for physical examination and clinical evaluation, especially now that your mother is experiencing bleeding from it. diagnostics (such as proctoscopy and direct rectal examination) and management (medical and/or surgical - hemorrhoidectomy if indications are found) will be directed accordingly. high fiber diet and hot-sitz bath may temporarily relieve the pain, but if the suspected hemorrhoid is thrombosed and is actively bleeding, surgical management is best.
hope this helps.
good day!!
