Suggest Treatment For Eagle S Syndrome In Styloid Process

i feel like a lump(or something) in the right part of my throat area. It s irritating and uncomfortable , the uncomfort increases when I eat spicy foods. Its worse in the morning when I wake up. It feels like there is some connection between the insides of my right area and the lump in my throat. Sometimes the insides of my right ear starts paining mildly. Its been like this for 6 months or so. There are some days the right part of my back also starts to hurt mildly inside my body. I visited a doctor and then going through some x ray reports he told I had Eagles Syndrome/ styloid process. I am not sure what should I do.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the Eagle syndrome is also known as Styloid syndrome or Stylohyoid syndrome, which is condition due to unusually long styloid process. That causes nerve compression type pain, at or below jaw, base of tongue, throat in varying cases. The management modalities include:
@ Non surgical intervention as
- Non steroidal anti inflammatory medicines
- Tricyclic antidepressants
- Anti convulsants
- Steroids
- Local anesthetics
@ Surgical intervention as
- Endoscopic surgery to remove extra portion of Styloid process with or without tonsillectomy

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
