Suggest Treatment For HSV

Hi,

I recently went for a complete STD checkup. Except HSV all results are negative.
Below are test results
HSV 1 + 2 IgG == 1.20
HSV 1 + 2 IgM == 0.19

Doctor said I have herpes genital and advised Aciclovir tablets. He said chances of false results are less and he is pretty sure I have herpes genital. Now this is the first time I went through comprehensive STD check. I always followed safe sex with condom. I never had any soars or blisters or any symptoms of herpes. I had few pimples/aberration on the testicles which have remained for years and doctor is not sure why it is there. I did read that sex with condom doesnt guarantee preventing of herpes.

My question is does "HSV 1 + 2 IgG == 1.20 " indicate herpes genital? I never had any symptoms nor did i ever have sex without condoms. I never had mouth ulcers neither any symptoms on genitals nor any outbreaks. Just want to know if there is stil a chance that I may not have herpes at all.

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Your test report can be interpreted as herpes positive but it is not a recent infection(IgM indicates recent infection and it is negative). IgG positivity is a sign of an past infection
Since the test kit used does'nt distinguish between type 1 and type 2 HSV therefore it cannot be said with surety that you have genital herpes indeed; it can very well be ora-labial herpes(HIV type 1 mostly causes oro-labial herpes and HSV type 2 mostly causes genital herpes).
Regarding the type of sexual activity; even protected sex cannot prevent transmission of genital herpes. So even though you always had protected sex, that is no argument against herpes.
You certainly have herpes but whether it is oral or labial, is not yet known
While HIV type 1 mostly causes oro-labial herpes and HSV type 2 mostly causes genital herpes; you may go for a type specific herpes test. That would further qualify the results.

Regards
