Suggest Treatment For OCD Of The Right Medial Femoral Condyle

Hi my name is Nathan i am turning 24 next month for over ten years i have suffered with bad knee pain in my right knee which seems to be getting worst, mri shows a large osteochondral defect in the medial femoral condyle measuring 2.6cm (ts) × 1cm (cc) × 3.4cm (ap) i had a consultation with a Knee surgeon and he told me i have OCD and there isnt anything he can do untill the lesion comes a drift inside my knee. I was also told to discontinue sport and look for a career change. Is this true that nothing can be done or should i seek a second opinion i just want my knee fixed and to be pain free

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a joint condition in which bone underneath the cartilage of a joint dies due to lack of blood flow. This bone and cartilage can then break loose, causing pain and possibly hindering joint motion. Based on the history you seem to be have worsening pain and considering the fact that if left untreated there is a risk of developing osteoarthritis in that joint. I advise you to take a second opinion from an orthopedic surgeon who is specialized in knee orthoscopy to restore the normal functioning of the right knee joint and relieve pain, as well as reduce the risk of osteoarthritis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
