Suggest Treatment For PCOS , Asthma , Sleep Apnea And Depression

I was diagnosed with PCOS as a teenager. I have struggled with my weight since then; losing some and then gaining it back and more. I am 48 and morbidly obese after being a healthy weight until my early twenties. I do not have diabetes but do have asthma, sleep apnea, depression and elevated cholesterol; I am petrified of the health crisis I feel is coming if I don t get control of my weight. I am a very intelligent and accomplished person; I feel I have tried everything to control my weight but this continues to be a source of significant shame and frustration for me. I don t really want to have bariatric surgery because I feel I should be able to do this without surgery. Do you have any suggestions for me?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Weight has always been an issue with every patient suffering from PCOS. Regular exercise with diet control is the only way you can have to lose weight. In addition, you can ask your gynecologist to prescribe you Metformin which will help in controlling your weight and PCOS, both. Let us say that when a person without PCOS loses 5 kg of weight, a PCOS patient loses 1 kg. So it is a tough road and you have to walk on it to be in good health and control weight and weight related issues.

Exercise regularly. Restrict your fat and sugar intake. Drink a glass of water before every meal. Do not overeat at a time. Rather, eat small portions on a gap of 2-3 hours. Do not lose patience and persistence.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing us to guide you. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
