Suggest Treatment For A Bruise On The Leg After A Fall

I fell back in March. I bruised my leg to the bone. Thought I broke it. Went to the urgent care but was told it's just bruised really bad, no broken or cracked bones. Skipping to today...that part of my leg has knots and the skin is still discolored. It hurts to push on it. I wasn't able to put weight on it fully until a few weeks ago. Not sure if it's anything to worry about or just let nature takes its course.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that due to hitting of the leg there has been injury to the soft tissues and hard lump seems to be due to hematoma formation and it occurs due to rupture of blood vessels and accumulation of blood in the soft tissues..

Hematoma is a harmless tumor like mass formed due to spillage of blood from ruptured blood vessels leading to accumulation of blood into the soft tissues forming a lump..

At times the hematoma gets localized and encapsulated and forms a firm hard lump that can take a long time, say a few months to resolve, but it generally tend to resolve itself..

As in your husband's case also the lump seems to be due to a firm hematoma and you need not to worry as it will resolve gradually..

You should do alternate warm and cool compresses over the lump..
Apply Heparin gel as it help in faster disintegration of the hematoma..

I would suggest you to do cool compresses over the area..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Apply Heparin gel as it will help in resolving the lump soon..
Elevate your leg while lying down and also limit exertion..

In case of no improvement in a week consult an Orthopedician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
