Hello,

I can understand your concern. A cyst that grows larger over some period of time or which is about 5 cm or larger surely needs consideration of surgical removal. However, I fail to understand the reason why your doctor asked you to wait for 6 months! Do you a cardiac problem or other major health problems that contraindicates surgery without prior steps? Is your doctor not available for few months? Are you prescribed medications to try to decrease the size of the cyst and asked to follow up after some time?

If you have other health problem, it is advisable not to rush for surgery which may put you at risk for complications post-surgery. If you are prescribed medications, you can wait till you complete the course as many cysts do resolve without surgery. If you do not want to take medicines and go for surgery only, you can ask your surgeon so and plan the surgery. If surgeon is not available before 6 months, you can consult another surgeon for earlier relief from the cyst and issues related to it.

I hope this answer is helpful to you. You can refer back to me if there is some misunderstanding from my side to understand your situation. I wish you feel better soon!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
