Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I do not have the disease you mention, but am so bothered with dry mouth. I ve asked my Dr.and pharmacist, but they just say since I m taking blood pressure meds, and gabapentine, that could be the reason. Is taking the cevimeline still a good idea. It drives me crazy, so miserable. But don t want any side effects either, as don t have the disease you mention starting with S.
I can understand your concern. I guess you are mentioning you do not have Sjogren's Syndrome and still you are prescribed Cevimeline which is bothering you. Cevimeline is used most commonly for dry mouth associated with Sjogren's Syndome. However, dry mouth due to other causes can also benefit from this drug as it acts on the receptors responsible for production of saliva.
It is also true that your dry mouth can be due to Gabapentin and Blood Pressure medications you have been taking. For relief from this dry mouth, you can suck on sugarless candies or chewing gum. You can also take over-the-counter available Pilocarpine, the effects of which lasts for 4-5 hours and then you can repeat it. Keep sipping water.
You can also ask your prescribing doctor if change in medications is possible. I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
