hi I have a close friend who has had a bad skin problem, his head and face looks dry and like it has dandruff. the arms, legs, back, stomach, bottom, as well as feet are dry and scaled up causing his body to shed skin and sometimes bleed. he has been to doctors continually about it they draw blood and always tell him they don t no what it is. I am trying to find out what it is so I can help him to get the right meds to treat it so he can begain to heal and not be in so much pain.
Seborrheic dermatitis or eczema could be the cause of dry and itchy scalp based on your symptoms. Mild steroid cream along with moisturizer should be used to reduce the dryness. Medication containing salicylic acid or urea may relieve dryness and ease scaliness. Severe cases may need vitamin A derivatives called retinoids. Genetic skin condition like ichthyosis should also be ruled out.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
