Suggest Treatment For A Glioblastoma

My sister was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, the very large mass was removed during a 9 hour surgery, with no deficits. She will start radiation and oral chemotherapy drug, and they want to also start a clinical study at the same time, I am concerned that is alot at one time, also her surgeon did no want her to have alot of radiation, but one clincal study is a large amount of radiation, i am also concerned about too much radiation to the brain that it may have bad side effects.I am also not sure exactly what a clincal trail is. is it experimental? Thanks Linda

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It's good that surgery was successful. Radiotherapy can be done for further reassurance as if any remnants of malignant cells can be removed before any chances of relapse and though is associated with some side effects but will only be started after weighing the pros Vs cons and only if advantages are more will be initiated.

Her primary surgeons appear to be competent enough to make these decisions after discussing with the family indeed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Regards,
